Southern Branch of SIO RAS and Research of the Black Sea Coastal Zone Processes at tht Dedicated Test Site.
Institute of Oceanology of the USSR Academy of Sciences (IO RAS), was founded in Moscow in 1946. It was determined to establish the experimental station at the sea coast to develop new methods for oceanographic research.
The most suitable was the coast of the Black Sea, where the climate is favorable for carrying out the field work all year round. A piece of land around the Blue Bay near the town of Gelendzhik was selected. At this site, the IO RAS experimental and methodical station was founded in 1949.
